Happy Newyear 2015We wish and hope, of course, for everyone to have a safe and enjoyable New Year’s celebration.  That is made more likely, obviously, if folks display good judgment. Sadly, good judgment frequently seems to be in short supply as we approach midnight on December 31st.  While no one at MKR is looking to ruin your good time, please allow us to offer a few suggestions to help you get safely into 2016 without endangering yourself or others:

DO have a decent meal before you begin to drink, if your holiday plans include alcohol. It will also help if you consume water in roughly the same volume as the alcohol you enjoy.

DON’T drink and drive. Duh. It’s dangerous; enforcement is at an all-time high this evening; you know all of the reasons. And it’s so simple to arrange for a DD, or to call for a ride. If you want to drink, fine. Just hand your keys to someone else.

DO intervene if you see someone else attempt to get behind the wheel after drinking. That is not the time to worry about people’s feelings.  And we won’t say, “They’ll thank you later.” Who cares if they thank you or not? Step in to protect yourself and others. It’s the right thing to do.

DON’T shoot your gun at midnight.  It’s against the law, and, unless you are on a ranch in the middle of nowhere, a stupidly dangerous thing to do.

DO set off fireworks tonight, if you have them.  Their use is legal from December 24th to January 3rd.  However,

DON’T try to set off fireworks if you’ve been drinking.  For obvious reasons.

We appreciate all who have followed us on Facebook and read our blogs in 2015. On behalf of everyone at Miller Kory Rowe LLP, we wish you a happy and prosperous New Year.
