world dayIn our elder abuse practice, clients often come to us with a complaint about a nursing home or assisted living facility, not realizing the severity of the neglect and abuse that their loved ones have suffered.  Unable to protect themselves, seniors and the elderly fall victim to over-worked caregivers and profit-driven nursing homes.

According to the statistics, more than half a million reports of elder abuse are reported to authorities each year in America, and millions more cases go unreported.  Abuse and neglect can occur in many ways, including physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, and healthcare fraud.  Although Arizona has laws in place to protect the elderly and vulnerable adults, enforcement of the laws depends on those closest to the victims identifying and reporting the bad conduct.

In honor of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we wanted to help spread the word on what to look for to identify abuse and neglect.  Below is a chart of warning signs:
